Rain Season Begins

Today is raining, again. Now, it becomes the second day when the rain has been falling all day long in Sejiram. It is believe that some months’ name ending with –ber has meaning rain in my region. So, it starts from September, October, November and December. As the result, some rivers and streets now have been flooded and even in the backyard of my father’s house. It is swamp. So the water could easily flood the backyard.

Therefore, it has been a sign that the rain season has begun in my region.


The Most Valuable Heritage in Future

Every tourism destination has its own potencies. The potency of a tourism destination is very important and needs to be collected or documented to give more specific information widely. The tourism destination that has the potencies can influence public’s interest to visit the tourism object. It’s about Gereja Katolik Santo Fidelis Sejiram


Few years ago, when Gereja Katolik Santo Fidelis Sejiram has been announced as historical building in Kapuas Hulu Regency by the government, Mr. Matheus Kusai (61 years old), was the first man who selected to take care of the church. He was a catechist in Dangkan Parish House before he moved to Sejiram in 1980’s and worked there.

The Site of Gereja Katolik Santo Fidelis Sejiram

Sejiram, which is located about 617 kilometers Northeast from Pontianak (the capital of West Kalimantan) and 119 kilometers from Putussibau (the capital of Kapuas Hulu Regency), is the capital of Seberuang Subdistrict where the site of Gereja Katolik Santo Fidelis Sejiram located. The local citizens consist of some Dayaknese such as Dayak Seberuang, Dayak Suaid and Dayak Kantu. The history of the church can be simply described based on the datas in Parish of Saint Fidelis Sejiram.

It was in 1892, on the bank of sungai (river) Seberuang, P. H. Looymans, SJ, who then became the first missioner for the Dayaks in Kapuas Hulu, and some people, who are the local citizens, built a church, which was simply made from some woods as its base. Then, it was named and called the Catholic Church of Saint Fidelis Sejiram. But few years later, the church had been fired. It was known that the church had been renovated for two times since it had been built. Now, the existentce of the church has become the oldest church building in Kapuas Hulu Regency and the Christian’s pride building in Sejiram.
